Amblyopia (Lazy Eye)

Self Photos / Files - 2-diagram-5Amblyopia (also known as lazy eye) is characterized by reduced visual acuity even with full correction of all refractive errors. It commonly affects only one eye, and children with anisometropia (significant difference in refractive errors between the two eyes), strabismus or congenital eye diseases are more likely to develop amblyopia. During visual development (from birth to 8 years old), if either eye cannot see clearly, its neural connection with the brain would be adversely affected and amblyopia may be developed. If detected early, amblyopia can be treated with spectacles, eye patching and visual training.
